Hawnby, North York Moors, 7th August
Hawnby is a small crossroads village and civil parish in Rye Dale in the North York Moors National Park, North Yorkshire, England. It is twice mentioned in the Domesday book, as Halmebi in the Allerton hundred. Hawnby is in a beautifully isolated location down miles of single-track roads, you really feel that you are out in the middle of nowhere.
Arden Hall, a notably historic building just to the west of the village is a Grade II Listed Building, Mary, Queen of Scots stayed here briefly en route to her execution.
Myself and Steve Tierney took a trip out to investigate it as a new location during the peak of the summer heather season.
We set out to photograph the Hill but were soon taken with the view from the top itself.
This is definitely a location to be revisited in the future and it is definitely at its best when the heather is in full colour during August.
