Old Meggison Falls Kildale

Old Meggison Falls, Kildale

Saturday July 1st 2017 – Old Meggison Falls

Kildale Falls or as named in the 1913 Ordnance Survey map “Old Meggison” is a lovely little hidden gem not far from the North Yorkshire village of Kildale near Great Ayton. The waterfall forms part of the River Leven as it winds its way down to the River Tees at Yarm.

Surprisingly considering it is nestled just beneath Captain Cook’s monument and just off the Cleveland Way it is not a widely known place locally.

As there had been a lot of rain recently I decided to take a look at this waterfall for the first time, it is at its best with a good flow of water over.

Location

Sat Nav Postcode: Y021 2RT

Turn right before Kildale station and follow the road under the railway line.

Just before Bankside Farm park on the bend in the graveled area near the gate and stile.

The falls are around 5-10 minutes walk straight down the track, follow your ears..

The bottom of the falls is accessible down a fairly steep and slippery slope, especially after rain, take care!

The parking is free, wellies are essential to get close to the falls.
